Almost hate to say it, but Cutler is a franchise QB. Sure, you would like to have a young Aaron Rodgers, but the reality is that top tier QBs are very rare, and only a handful of teams will get one. If there were 28 or so QBs that were better than Cutler you may have a point, but he is in the top half of the league with potential if utilized intelligently. What QB below Rivers would you rather have than Cutler?
I think there are many when you consider value. Fitzpatrick and Cutler are basically the same yet Fitzpatrick can be had for the bargain price of 3.2 mil, about 13 mil less than Cutler. That's a lot of money to put elsewhere on the team. All in all, about 18 QBs I'd rather have than Cutler.

LOL no they're not. The objectivity on this board is brutal at times. And the fact that you had someone like your post is asinine.

The stats say they're similar. Cutler has just had more 4 quarter comebacks / game winning drives. Probably because Cutler in general has been on better teams than Fitzpatrick.

The college season is not even half way over and some people are already set on taking Goff, who wasn't even among the top-5 QBs in the Pac-12 last year. Unreal...

Yeah they're similar if we greatly exaggerate stats.

QB rating 85.1 to 79.4
Yards per pass 7.17 to 6.61
Completion Percentage 61.7 to 60.2
Td-int ratio 1.41 to 1.22
TDs-pass attempt percentage 4.7% to 4.3%
Winning percentage .508 to .380
Eye test NOT EVEN CLOSE

If you want to say these numbers are similar I guess Jay Cutler and Dan Marino are comparable.

I think we need an ultimatum on this forum, if you believe Fitzpatrick and Cutler are close, you are self banned until after the draft.

I'm thoroughly against Cutler being our QB anymore but to compare him and Fitzpatrick is Special person. True, Fitzpatrick is a bargain as of right now but everyone knows he'll come back down to earth. It would be nice to have a QB at $3.2 million but this team wouldn't be any better with Fitz and $13 million to spend elsewhere. Fitz already signed his money contract 4 years ago that the whole league laughed much like the whole league is laughing at Cutler's contract now, so I guess they are the similar in that regard.

I would take Cutler over Fitzpatrick because he's more talented, but he's still too prone to the mistakes and turnovers that will hurt you.
Yes and fyi interception per pass percentage Jay is lower at 3.4 to 3.5. I'm not sure on fumble rates though

Some of y'all have way too much time to sit and argue this tiresome shit. Posting QBs drafted in the 70's like that shit matters now... For fucks sake.

I'll do this. I agree Eye Doc and show others and those who disagree can do so. I don't really care.

But **** man this shit gets old. So.... Eye Doc, continue fighting the good fight homie.

I beg to differ.
His best 2 seasons in chicago in terms of passing tds was 09 and 14- he was 8th in the league and 10th in the league. Both years he was #1 in interceptions in the league.

Aside from those 2 seasons, he hasnt been in the top 10 for anything.
Look around the league and check out the middle tier guys that occasionally crack the top 10 in passing categories (the good categories). If your definition of "franchise" qb is that loose, then there are a stack of middle tier guys that will come in above Jay.

Being local, many here seem to think Jay is the only guy who faces adversity via coaches and lesser talent at times... but many guys around the league suffers from the same crap.
When you factor in health, the case for Cutler gets even weaker.

Cutler is just a guy. a highly paid guy, but just a guy.

Is he elite? No.

Is the NFL getting a new source of NFL caliber QBs? If not, then the league would still have the same QB talent pool to draw from and Cutler, being middle of the pack is a franchise QB unless 14 or so teams field a wildcat only offense.

Holy fucking shit. This couldn't be further from the truth. As a huge fan of the University of Arizona, I can assure you Goff is very well known and feared in the Pac 12.

Alright, it's time to accept the Bears will not be drafting a quarterback in the first round. The Bears aren't really in QB trouble. Use a second or a third to take a project.

I'm not willing to bet there is an option in the draft that will pan out better than Cutler for the near future.

No one mentioned Baltimore? Flacco and Trestman are worse than Gace and Cutler.

What positions have a lack of talent that is holding this team back the most from winning? Right now, it is not the QB position. It is inside linebacker and cornerback on the defense and the offensive line in general. This is why it is completely fine to keep playing Cutler while you develop a young QB and improve in those areas of need.

This is the reality. If the Bears draft a quarterback, it's not to replace Cutler right away.
