Are you seriously suggesting Lester doesn't make the Cubs better?

I think Shark and Robertson made the Sox better. Why deny it?

of course he does. timing is off and the money is out of control. lester makes anyone better but does the contract explode in the cubs face.

Contract is nowhere near out of control.

On Opening day 2016, there will be lesser pitchers making more $.

It's not like they just threw 11.5 million per at a reliever! :)

And the comment that the timing is off is just plain stupid. Should they wait and sign him in a year?

If he signs, it will be 2015-2020. The Cubs will absolutely be contending in that period.

Latest report by Ken Rosenthal say its down to us and the Giants. Sources are telling him Lester has knocked his choices down to the Giants or us and Ive read he doesnt prefer the West Coast.

Thanks for jinxing us Silence.

Here's the thing though Dews. Of course it could explode in their face. Much like the ones in the Angels organization, or a-Rod, or countless others. But lets not act as if this happens all of the time in Chicago. as bad as some think Soriano's was, he still put up some pretty good numbers.

And also, when teams start to fold and go belly up because of these exhorbitant contracts, then and only then should we worry.

The Cubs have created roster flexibility for just this kind of signing and more, and Theo is on the books as stating that sometimes you have to gamble on how the future will help pay for this. I am assuming he means the TV deal and revenue from advertising.

I could care less of they throw 75 million into the starting staff. With the rest of the young players they have and the young bullpen, they will still only be in the 120-125 million range, and that is including E-Jax.

10 million above San Fran offer, if taxes are included in deal consideration...

plus Rosentahal tweeting about when Lester signs Cubs will sign big bat besides the trade for Montero. I think it is a done deal too.

Soler, Russell and Bryant look like they will be ML regulars. Now their ceilings are unknown, but I don't see either of them busting.

I can see Schwarber, Almora, Baez, and Alcantara "busting". Baez is gonna strike out a lot, there isn't really anyway around that but it will be interesting to see how he adjusts over the offseason.

I woulnd't be surprised if the Cubs were the mystery team in on Chase Headley.

It will be nice if they do, and both teams start to make progress instead of being the laughing stock town of sports in general....Black Hawks not included of course.

Baseball is back in Chicago

The biggest bat the Cubs can add this offseason is already in their system in Bryant.

can you imagine both teams striving to make the playoffs? it would be so awesome for all baseball fans of chicago to embrace the changes of FOs made and if the philosophies work. it will be a fun few summers.
