Not trying to get in this but my grandma is Hispanic and she had to sit in the back of the bus. She had to drink from the colored water fountains too. She just told that story on Christmas.

Well that wasn’t the law so I’m not sure why. And even if that was true it was not to the degree statically Black people in this country.

Me neither. But maybe she was considered colored as well? I don’t know.

okay,, da knee is ova..

the few drops of injian on me fathers side had to die and give up they land.. land known as da us of a now..

since murdering, raping, stealing etc etc from them injians.. the whites have dominated this land and have discriminated against every race that has eva stepped foot on it.... including they own, moreso via da classim..

but this is what THEY want.. division.. and this is what ye peoples give em.. even the white/black color palette descriptor be divisive.. aint no opposites.. never met no white nor black man.. just varying shades of flesh..

okay..

u needs to come together in da shower n grow the football.. n then we as man and woman and womanman and manwoman etc etc can have a singular voice for da humans.. mane.. cause to da top.. we just cattle..

until all the races n bi-nationalities be one in da us of a.. aint shit gonna happen but finger pointing.. victimhood etc etc.. and yes there is systematic racism depending on how one looks at it.. and yes blacks can be racist on a level... but levels, there are levels.....

unite or be divided and conquered til yo death..

takes a knee..

That is the point. Racism is strictly treating someone different due to the color of their skin. That's it. It doesn't Define the skin colors involved - anyone can be racist to anyone else if they judge them or treat them differently due to skin color. White on black, black on white, doesn't matter.

Anyone arguing anything different is trying to change the definition of racism to suit their own agendas.

There are two definitions currently in use. One is showing prejudice based on skin colour or race, and the other definition is having the power over another race, or skin colour, that you are able to practice and act upon your prejudice by denying the same footing to those other colours and races.

You are disagreeing on semantics, and it really bogs down any chance at finding common ground, which there is a ton of.

But common ground is not what people really want on a message board it seems. That funny human nature thing.

How many of them have ever been owned by another human being, having their sole purpose to live as other people’s property? How many of them wake up every morning wondering if today could be their last because they could be shot by the police? How many of them have had their entire families arrested for victimless crimes? How many of them have their ideas stolen by more privileged people? How many of them knownpoverty?
With modern day human trafficking going on RIGHT NOW, my guess is quite a few so why don't you just shut the fuck up and get off your high horse.

Just think, that used to be every African-American. And now we are supposed to outraged when a few pretty white girls from Eastern Europe get taken?

If you understood the importance of Social Justice you would understand that “getting off my high horse” is not an option as millions without voices need me.

I think the spirit of the rule is fine. And the NFL doesn't dictate who you must hire. It simply gives minority coaches opportunity to be considered.

But there's no perfect solution. If a team wants a specific coach who they know, it is insulting to minorities to go through the charade of an interview when they decision has already been made.

On the other hand - as the rule is intended - when a team is not sure of who they want, and interviews several candidates, it offers opportunity to the minority coach. That is a good thing.

Mike Tomlin was interviewed by the Steelers when they already had a pretty good idea who they wanted. (I forget who that was, unfortunately.) But Tomlin impressed them so much, he got the job.

But, yes, in cases where a team knows a coach and wants that one specific guy, it seems silly, or even insulting. Especially in this case, where they are rehiring a former coach.

Switching sports here, but....Imagine Steinbrenner having to hold a mock interview before rehiring Billy Martin 5 times!

Compared to the overall population, a disproportionate amount of players are black

Wow. Lots of bias here. The Roonie rules was a good one that worked. That's not the issue. The issue is whether it's still needed and something we can't easily answer just yet. The NFL is letting it run due to its success and choosing to err on the side that needed the creation of a level playing field in the 1st place. We still have too few black OCs for instance but that may be because so many OCs were QBs which used to be dominated by white guys and is a sort of trickle down prejudice that will correct itself in the next decade or 2. I'm in favor of letting it play out but when a team knows who they want without needing any interviews beyond one with that coach, the rule needs to be waved like when promoted from within.

Comparing to national or NFL demographics won't tell us much but we should all agree the rule was needed when enacted and that no one is forced to hire anyone. At this point, there is an element of dance to it but not enough to outweigh its benefits and I honestly don't think we're far enough out of the woods to be certain there wouldn't be some backsliding if it were rescinded.

In the words of the late great Al Davis: "Just win, baby!"

In life and in sports, winning is the bottom line. The great thing about the free market is that you can be a racist if you want, but by only hiring certain skin colors or only selling your product to certain skin colors, the market is eventually going to weed you out, and you're going to lose. It goes for running a Mom & Pop pizza parlor, as well as a billion dollar sports franchise.

"The great thing about the free market is that you can be a racist if you want".

If asked to name something great about the free market, this is something that would never cross my mind. Fortunately for me.

This notion that if we just feign color blindness that racism will go away unfortunately doesn't work. White societies have proven time and time again that we can't treat black people fairly. The result is that we now need the government to guide us to behave properly, like unruly children who need their hands held crossing the road. Don't blame progress, blame white people for being so consistently shit forever
Wow, blatant racism against a white race.

I have served in the trenches (real trenches, not a fucking analogy) with MEN of all colors, and because I’m white, you automatically assume that I have a bias against MEN of color. Screw you!
