If Ryan Pace sucks at evaluating the QB position then so does the rest of the NFL and all the draft gurus and such. Trubisky was the consensus best QB prospect available in the 2017 draft. If Pace is guilty of anything it's perhaps liking Mitch Trubisky the person too much that it clouded his judgment on Mitch Trubisky the player, moreso when it came to bringing in competition for him and such. No one thought Mahomes would be what he is and eleven other teams didn't think DeShaun Watson was worthy of drafting as their QB going forward.

It's much more of an indictment against this idea that talent evaluation is even remotely easy or consistent. You can scout and evaluate til you're blue in the face but it's proven out that the draft ultimately isn't a whole lot more than a crap shoot when it comes to the vast majority of players eligible to be drafted.
Whose consensus?

There's nothing other than Pace's word, and leaks to the media about what kind of effort the Bears put forward in getting Wilson. Meanwhile, didn't draft Dak, didn't draft Mahomes, and didn't draft Watson. Didn't sign Tyrod Taylor, Teddy Bridgewater, or Jameis Winston.

But I'm sure if we check the ancestory.com datat for Mike Glennon, Nick Foles, and Andy Dalton maybe we'll find something.

It was widely reported Bridgewater chose the Panthers over the Bears last offseason because Bears wouldn’t guarantee he would be the unquestioned starter.

That's interesting, because Andy Dalton said that he was told that his the starter.

Something is different between Dalton and Bridgewater, but I can't put my finger on it.

Yeah it’s a different year and Mitch is gone.

You are embarrassing yourself.

Go look up 2017 draft prognostications and pretty much every draftnik had Trubisky as the top QB available. There's a reason he went #2 and Mahomes/Watson went #10/#12.

This is how it goes every year though. People forget that the majority of QBs selected aren't all that great but they trade the farm to move up for them anyway, totally convinced that this is the guy. Then the fans kill the GM for being a complete and utter idiot because "OMG any idiot could have seen that Mahomes had the making of being the best QB of all the times, Pace is an idiot for passing on him!" It's just not true.

If I was a GM, i'd just take repeated shots on potential in the late 1st to the 3rd every other year. That way, if the guy doesn't turn out, oh well it's not like we traded the farm for him. If he turns out, you can be the brilliant dude who drafted Russell Wilson in the 3rd or Tom Brady in the 6th (or maybe just Kirk Cousins in the 4th).

Keep burying your head in the sand. Pace has had 7 opportunities to either draft or sign an African-American QB, but each time he either neglected it, or chose a vastly inferior white QB. That's a pattern.

Pat Mahomes was considered a reach at the time, he was mostly mocked in the second. A lot of people were surprised the Chiefs gave up as much for him as they did. Deshaun Watson had massive medical red flags and perhaps a character issue that is only now coming to the public light.

Mel Kiper and Mike Mayock, you know, the 2 most prominent draft pundits at the time.

If Mahomes and Watson going 10th and 11th overall respectively is not convincing enough.
So nobody who at the time worked for an NFL team? Meanwhile, how is Mayock doing in his current position?

It's almost as if media mock drafts is just darts being thrown at a wall.

Its almost like the entire concept of quarterback scouting is throwing darts at a wall. Nobody knows what's going to happen and what seems obvious is retrospect almost invariably couldn't be known at the time. I guess your one condition is that the Bears must have a black quarterback, which is really a fucking weird line to draw but whatever...

Pace may not even realize he’s doing it, but I agree overall—Look at alllllll the QBs Pace has acquired one way or another during his tenure, and notice the difference between those inferior players and the superior players he didn’t get, and the differences in acquisition approach to them.

I’m not saying Pace is a conscious racist, just that I think he subconsciously picks QBs he thinks are like him. There’s some sort of subconscious bias happening there.

Conveniently ignore where Watson and Mahomes were drafted.

Conveniently ignore reports the Bears offered Bridgewater 3 year $60 mil contract and Schefter and many other top NFL reporters reporting the Seahawks turned down the Bears massive trade offer for Russell Wilson.

Its fucking weird how badly you want to paint Pace as this racist with weak anecdotal evidence.

The whole unconscious bias thing is ridiculous on it's face. If it's unconscious then that, by definition, means you're not aware of it, and thus are in no position whatsoever to do something about it. Might as well say that Pace should be fired because he's white, which is essentially the argument you're making.

I'll just add in that Pace offered $60 mil over 3 years for black QB Teddy Bridgewater last year (which would have been a big mistake in hindsight) and reportedly offered 3 first round picks, 2 thirds and a couple players (which were most likely black) for black QB Russell Wilson. To think that Pace is interested in race over winning (i.e. his job) when the majority of players in the NFL are black is the height of absurdity.

So had Bridgewater decided to sign here or the Seahawks accepted the Bears offer for Wilson, Pace wouldn’t be a racist?

Lol so stupid.

Well you're gonna throw a hissy fit if they acquire anyone else. I think it is very strange to categorize NFL quarterbacks by race, harkens back to the eugenics and racialism of the thirties.

Don’t be a dumb ass. People aren’t mad cause we don’t have a black qb. We are mad that you can pretty much cross any black qbs name from pace list of qbs. And that’s why this franchise is so dick right now.
