It's their money....they don't tell me what I should spend....why would I tell them? The only thing that bothers me is that half the team are in their 30's. The time of seeing if the kids they got can play is drawing near....how do they plan to augment the roster with young players if they are trying to win a division? I get why a lot of these guys are here but he chose poorly and most of them won't garner much of anything in return....he was probably thinking of Deadline dumping most of them and letting some of the kids fill the vacated spots. Every team in this division has had a hot streak....even the Pirates. The timing for the Cubs run is just not ideal.

Swanson, Hoerner, most likely Amaya, are players on the MLB roster who aren't going anywhere.

They should hang on to Gomes, who is in his 30's.

Who else are the players in their 30's you are afraid they are building around?

Hendricks doesn't need to go, but isn't a guy they're "building around". Tauchman has been a good cheap find, but is not blocking anyone. He is a placeholder for PCA at best.

Mancini, Barnhart....they're not pieces that management is counting on in the future. They're not going to block anyone.

This was not considered a year to be in any sort of championship window. But they have to fill a roster. Don't get too worried about the age of this roster. There are a lot of younger guys coming. Whether they reach their ceilings is another concern, but management is not pinning the team's future on Mancini, Barnhart and Tauchmann.

I get the concern about age, but I don't worry that they are going to go forward with aging players.

Big hope that Stroman can get past his funk and get back to his 1st half self for this stretch run. Convince the current FAs to be and future free agents that this team is building for the now and immediate future.

Cards sold a pair of Jordans today.

Montgomery to Texas (with a reliever, Stratton).
Hicks to Toronto.

I'm kinda feeling like the cubs are just going to do not much of anything and roll with with they have. They are probably adding at least 1 player given they opened a 40 man slot but i don't see them making any impactful moves.

I mean this is the smart way to go about it. Improve the team on the margins, another reliever and power bench bat. This tells the team that the front office wants them to push for the playoffs but that they have to do it on their own. The same thing happened in 2015 when Cubs were ten games back but 7 games above .500. The playoffs were possible and so they landed Dan Haren to help shore up the SP. Wasn't a big move but it helped ignite an amazing second half run.

A couple moves so far today not involving the Cubs.

Rays acquire starter Civale from Cleveland.
D-Backs acquire reliever Sewald from Seattle.
Brewers acquire Mark Canha from the Mets.

Nothing earth shattering yet, but a little activity.

Meanwhile, Candelario is not in the Nats lineup. I wouldn't want to give up a lot, but it would be nice having a 3rd baseman that looks like a major leaguer, even if not all world.

MLB Network is reporting that the Cubs have acquired Candelario.

Waiting to hear the important part - the return to Washington.

Looks like deal 1 done. PCA was moved to Iowa today so you really never know what is going to happen next.
