I guess we won't see Stroman moved since they aren't pulling him from his start tonight.

I thought there was a legit chance they moved him.

Agreed. Pretty big value for a mediocre improvement to a mediocre team
Herz and Made were both rule 5 eligible and not ready for the 40 man roster yet. So they likely lose those two anyways.

The Cubs have a good depth problem in the minors but it’s depth they are forced to trade away or lose them outright.

Well, now that they went this route and got a 3B, which deliver will they acquire?

There’s a 3rd option…trade from that depth for guys that are a real impact and has team control

Hertz was forced to go more direct to the plate. A ball his cross fire worked but he had control issues that caught up to him.

I'm pretty sure that the vibe was he was effective because he was coming at a weird angle and vs advanced hitting he would get wrecked

From Hoyer? Yeah, sure.

Here's the deal for all of you clamoring for this guy....first, I'm sure he's better than Mr.K, the Gold Glover but he's probably only marginally better than Madrigal. I do remember him being one of the worst players I've ever seen when he was here. But whatever he does, he better do it quick. The next 10 days will probably determine if the Cubs are contenders or pretenders. They could easily lose 5 or 6 of the next 7 games....if so....they gone.

Cubs can offer deals to any of the players on short term. All are young still and if they click together then it works going forward

Herz had some nice upside. Not sure how I feel about acquiring such a mediocre improvement at 3B for him

Cubs production at 3B so far this season: BA .234 (22nd in MLB), OBP .319 (16th), SLG .412 (15th), OPS .731 (16th)

Candelario so far this year among 3Bmen: BA .258 (8th and 24 points better), OBP .342 (5th and 23 points better) SLG .481 (7th and 69 nice points better), and OPS .823 (6th and 92 points better). All that upgrade for the Cubs 14th and 16th prospects. He even has more home runs. He's essentially everything positive about Madrigal and Wisdom in one player.

What more did you really want?

Metrics had Candy below league avg D prior to this year. This year it went to league avg.

I see him as a player that can move between 1B and 3B. So that frees up Bellenger to move to CF as needed.

So you want the Cubs to have swung a deal with the Cards, Red Sox, Padres or maybe Cleveland? Because those are about the only teams with 3B that have impact bat and gloves on controlled deals that don't have their own sights on the playoffs. Think one of those guys doesn't cost top 5 talent?

Not very realistic. That team control costs a lot more. Getting Candelario helps improve our chances of resigning him, at the cost of two guys who likely wouldn't be in our farm system next year. It's a damn good deal.

Velasquez traded to the Royals for Jose Cuas. Velasquez was pretty much blocked here so this makes sense. But Cuas must have something special I aint seeing as he has been rather average and is 29, but with minor league options left.
