Add you to the long list of people who have said PC gaming is dead since like 2000. PC gaming will never be dead, there will always be enough enthusiasts to keep games getting released to PC. i.e. if PC gaming was dead i would have bought more than 5 games for my PS3 over the course of its life, 3 of which were NHL installments. and there are still plenty PC exclusives.

add to that, I havent "needed" to upgrade my PC in going on 4 years. ( I did get ONE video card upgrade, but that was personal choice, I didnt need it). The only reason you would consistently need to upgrade your PC ever 1-2 years is if you needed the latest cutting edge graphics set to ridiculous with every game you play. New PC games now, are pushing better graphics than the as of yet unreleased next gen consoles can even dream of and they arent even out yet. Unlike consoles PC players can adjust their graphics, if a PC gamer is fine with Console level graphics, they can easily get the life of a console out of their rig.

"constantly upgrading" your PC is a fallacy. You only have to constantly upgrade if you constantly want to be on the very cutting edge. Whereas console gamers simply have no option. As I said, I recently upgraded my video card in like January. after about 4 years of hassle free gaming on my current system and I still have no need to upgrade anything else.

and you who had so many issues with New vegas, while i never had so much as a crash on the PC version? Consoles are becoming subject just as much as PC gamers to the "quirks" of PC gaming because they are essentially trying to turn consoles into PC's with a hardware standard.

For the record, i built my current rig for the price of a launch day ps3 or 360.

Theres plenty of PC gamers on this forum. Bubble, Supra, me, Dante, I think Kotl, CLwolf obviously since he was looking forward to diablo. and this is a hockey forum and look at the amount of pc gamers. COmpare that to the other gamers in this thread who dont pc game, and just those posters I mentioned make of a big chunk of the people that post in this thread.

Yep. Given the choice between console and PC 99.9% of the time I will chose PC. Consoles in general to me are like TiVo or WebTV--dumbed-down architecture with limited scalability meant to appease the masses for ease-of-use. PC's are capable of so much more but require you to be tinkers, and in many cases it's worth it.

The only way I buy a console game over a PC game is if it's an exclusive to a specific console (Anything Zelda), anything specific to consoles because of nazi business practices by the developers that refuse to release it on PC (NHL franchise/Blur), or if in the long run it wouldn't matter the implementation of the graphics or control scheme and I just rely on cost (Street Fighter IV). Everything else I will get on the PC.

BINGO! On both of your posts.

And just as an addition, PC gaming has seen increases over the last four years, I believe, and has been closing the gap on console gaming.I haven't upgraded my PC in four years either. I'm on my second Xbox360, so it's a complete wash.

Practically all the shooters for console are either released for PC as well or ported over to PC. But you look at just the Total War series, Civ series, and simcity series and they are all PC.

There's a Civilization Revolutions game for PS3 (at least) but it's a really simplified version and I swear there's a bunch of game features that really don't do anything from a strategic standpoint, as if they were more ambitious than time and money allowed so certain things jst don't really seem to do anything. I think I read that they're working on a port for smart phones.

Turn based strategy games are few and far between for consoles. I'd really like to see something like a Masters of Orion in it's heyday but the closest is one of the cheaper Star Trek titles for PS2. There's no love for the turn based on consoles.

All true, especially the bold. I have Civ Rev also, hardly play it though for the reasons you mention.

Yeah I forgot about rev but they didn't rush out and do one for civ 5. I think for 2k games rev was an experiment that failed, the game was not well received.

Yeah GTA I dont really care what platform I get it for. If I dont have a hankering to get it on launch, I'll probably get it on PC. GTAIV looked amazing on the PC, but I still used an xbox controller to play it as I found it difficult to drive with the mouse and keyboard.

and yes the God awful waiting on NHL on the console. Fucking takes like an hour to sim a season too. On PC I could sim 10 seasons in like 5 minutes.

They better put better processors and more memory in the goddamn new consoles. Bad enough the video technology rumored to be going into them is already 1 generation behind, at least they will have DX11 I guess. I heard the new Playstation is getting a radeon 6xxxx chip, dont know whats going into xbox.

I might get xbox instead of PS this time around if it 1. comes with an HDD 2. Comes with wireless support. 3. Free online play 4. Blu-ray

Even with that. Alot of Xbox exclusives also ship for Windows (i.e. ME1) since I game on the PC, my options are superior if I go with PS.

I think memory is the problem for the menu screens in NHL12, the consoles just aren't big enough to toss the whole ui in there. I the hardware is the issue they are running into with the NFL and NHL games, I think those games are probably getting every bit out of those chips.

I remember reading the specs on the Xbox 360 and they are a joke. My old box beat the shit out of it.

That's the rub with the consoles to put the proper hardware in them it will cost 1k for the consoles.

I dont know a single person who hasnt had some sort of catastrophic hardware failure with a xbox or ps3 that they have owned for 3+ years.

I haven't had any catastrophic failures on mine and it's been almost 2 years. As for the PC numbers going up, you have to remember 2 things. 1.) the most widely used projections are from Nvidia... no bias there (Yes I know they make console gaming chips but it's not the same) but most importantly 2.) they are considering webbased gaming to be PC gaming in their figures, so all the worthless flash games you play cause your board at work and all the Facebook games that are complete clones of themselves are included in those numbers and have attributed to this pc gaming boom. I don't consider any of that PC gaming. If has ads or doesn't install to your hard drive or isn't a full blow full screen immersible game, it doesn't count. IE, they count Mafia Wars in those numbers as PC gaming.

I have almost 4 years on mine without an issue. It's used quite a bit too.

I should have added, that I don't know anyone who has had a problem with their PS3, only people with their XBOX... other than what I mentioned earlier of course.

In reality, both consoles have the same failure rate this generation. The xbox just got more press, and Microsoft admitted it and fixed the issue, while Sony denied anything was wrong and shit all over it's customers. I will actually never own a Sony playstation product again due to the PS3's failure issues from this generation. In fact I hope the Sony Gaming division folds and shuts down forever.

And if PC gaming was dead, Nvidia and AMD wouldn't be making $300, $400, $500, $600, and now $1k video cards every year.

PC gaming is not dead. Some game genres cant even be played on consoles.

However, I ditched heavy PC gaming because I didnt want to pay the costs of upkeep. Even if I went through 2 xboxs a year, it would still be less then an upgrade on a graphics card. I also do not play game genres that do require a PC.

As far as Sony PS3, I keep it now for a better interface for Netflix, NHL Game Center interface, and Bluray disks. All my gaming is on Xbox.

A game is a game is a game. I may loathe the facebook/flash games, but saying that "they don't count" would be like saying Legend of the Red Dragon or MajorMUD don't count because because they never loaded on your hard drive and wasn't a full screen game.

And if you don't know what Legend of the Red dragon or MajorMUD were, or anticipated each day you could log into the BBS to continue your quest (or spend hours tying up the phonelines) then you need to turn in your geek card right now.

I've had my PS3 for over four years now without a hitch but had to go through several PS2s and an Xbox (I gave up on the xBox after the first one failed). My Nintendo 64 is still going strong though. I'd still be playing Sega Genesis for my hockey games if I could, I never got a chance to own Mutant League Hockey before my Genesis when kaput.

They have a new Harley Quinn expansion coming out... they changed her hair to dark and redid her a bit.

http://www.ign.com/a...t-dlc-should-be

"UPDATE: Warner Bros. has confirmed that Harley Quinn's Revenge will cost 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99 on the PlayStation Network. Also, Robin won't be able to roam the entirety of Arkham City -- just this mission and his previously released challenge maps."

Irked that they are doing a GOTY pack that will include this and ALL the DLC... It's like there's no reward for getting it right when it comes out.

PC game sales show the same trend though. Origin and Steam have really, really helped with that, as you can purchase and download pretty much anything online at this point. Instant gratification is the way of the world now.

As far as upgrades are concerned, I only upgrade my video card when I buy a new game and want to see how far the graphics have come, and I always spend less than $200. My brother is using my old, old video card(about 4-5 years old), and can STILL play new games on medium/low settings (just as good as the graphics on consoles). PC hardware right now is WAY ahead of the software curve. Hell, most software still doesn't utilize even half the possible cores in the latest and greatest PCs.

For the rest of us D3 players don't bother reading it. It is bitching about launcher day issues and having to always logon.

Seriously I don't give a **** about logging in. Once they get the initial issues worked out the damn thing will go down tuesday morning and come back up at 230 most likely since they'll do the maintenance for it the same time they do WoW maintenance. I'm at work so I don't care.

Yesterday I logged on without incident played most of the night. Had to take a 30 minute break (and might have been less but that's what I waited) due to a server shutdown to fix something, how horrible they are fixing something.

everyone genuinely bitching about the launch day problems needs to STFU, I get bitching due to frustrating (see CLWolf) because I was there too but I also within a week it will flow so smoothly.
