This is getting ridiculous.

Sandy Hook’s State Rep Proposes a Sin Tax on M-Rated Games

The nation's freakout over scary scary violent video games shows no signs of abating. We're back to Connecticut again. Debralee Hovey, a state representative there, has proposed an additional 10 percent tax on the sale of M-rated video games.

The idea has been thoroughly discredited everywhere else it was brought up, but as Hovey's district includes Newtown, scene of the Sandy Hook school massacre in December, there's an element of political sympathy here that could carry it further.

As for the effect of the bill, it's nothing we haven't heard before: An extra $6 from the sale of an M-rated game would be collected by the state to fund mental health service. That's the big broad good thing everyone likes to bring up because a) no one knows how "mental health services" would directly prevent another Sandy Hook, but no one knows that they wouldn't, either. More importantly
<
it doesn't get you in trouble with the NRA or its lunatic cheering section.

I've got to wonder, would it be more constitutional, and still send the same message, if the state of Connecticut simply required all M-rated games to carry the label "YOU ARE A BAD PERSON FOR BUYING AND/OR PLAYING THIS"?

It's such BS. Again I reiterate. How many "mass shootings" have their been and how many kids have been exposed to violent media.

You are talking about a grain of sand in terms of the population, there is no correlation.

Notice how its just video games and they are making no mention of movies.

It just shows how out of touch law makers are. It's probably harder for a kid to get an MA rated game than an R rated movie. I have a cousin that works at game stop and he said they are deadly serious about enforcing the rating system as to what they will sell to minors. He said the kids just come back in with their oblivious parents, who fork the money over and get it for them, and then in some instances come back and complain about the adult themes in the game...doofus its rated MATURE.

but I digress....

I believe, and this is my conspiracy theorist coming out, that the NRA is too strong in lobby money to be blamed, and Hollywood would destroy them as well, so it's just flowing downhill to video games because they are the easy target instead of looking at the one commonality of every mass shooting. Mental Health.

Fox News Wants You To Be Mad About Assassin’s Creed III’s Evil George Washington DLC

http://kotaku.com/5985715/fox-news-...sassins-creed-iiis-evil-george-washington-dlc

Did you know that there's a video game where George Washington is evil? And that it's made by the French?

Yesterday, when Ubisoft released the first part in their trilogy of downloadable content for Assassin's Creed III, Fox News wasn't pleased. The French? Evil George Washington? Surely somebody should be offended by this!

So they posted an article titled "French company releases video game depicting George Washington as villain to be assassinated."

Check out the first paragraph:

A day after the United States honored George Washington, a French software company released a video game that depicts the first president as a tyrant who hangs people and must be assassinated.

I love that they find some obscure game creator guy to corroborate their position...

Nathan Fouts, an Indiana-based video game developer, claims it is no coincidence Ubisoft released the game the day after President's Day.

"I think they're trying to do something a little edgy," Fouts told FoxNews.com. "To provoke some people ... and get the most marketing reaction that they can."

I knew yesterday was presidents day, but never even crossed my mind that the two were related.

About the PS4, Pretty impressive features with Gaikai streaming stuff built in. I like the idea of sharing gameplay with friends, remote play with the Vita (even though I have no intention of buying one), the pausing a game anywhere and being able to resume it at any time, and that you can start playing a game almost immediately after you start downloading.

Watch dogs looks good, and it's in chicago so what's not to like... other than the fact that it will probably drive me crazy because it's not accurate enough and I'll be walking around going bullshit, that's not there in real life....

Killzone 4 looks nice... but it ended there for me. the demo didn't show me anything special other than point and shoot. And the graphics don't really seem that much better than current gen. It's all in the details and shading now instead of vast improvements. It'll get there when developers catch up, but I haven't really seen anything that made me shit my pants it looked so good.

Except maybe drive club, which was fucking beautiful... except, I'm not that much of a social gamer or a racer so it probably won't be for me.

The expansion of all this shit onto tablets and such is going to drive me nuts if they force you there instead of it being a peripheral... I love the push to play on the vita, might make me get one eventually, but I wish they'd have made it so the vita can be a controller like a Wii type controller. So far, I really like it, lot's of features I could give a shit about though so i'm not sure I like it. I hate the social aspects taking over the experience instead of it being about the game... it will come down to price. I'm saying it will be a loss leader at 499.00 because they majorly fucked up at 599 for the last one.

Pretty good talk by Randy Pitchfork (CEO of Gearbox) at DICE.

Lot of it has to do with the psychology in the industry.
