Also I recommend leveling up combat and not stealth since stealth does jack shit against the first boss battle

For the most part, I agree here. I didnt mind the ones in say, Mass Effect, but even those are a bit annoying. Most boss fights I dont dig either.

Yeah but there are very few boss fights in ME and to me, they never felt like a boss fight

End of ME1 did, imo. Benezia too.

The killing of the reaper in Rannoch has a boss-flight feel but was too intense and I was way to sexy to be critical...

Final Kai Leng fight was a TOTAL boss fight. My least favorite fight in all of ME1-3.

But all the rest were really well done imo.

I think for me the boss fights in the ME series were just better integrated as part of the story so I didnt notice they were boss battles. Kai Leng fight was just dumb. How he is represented in the video game does not at all match how he is represented in the books, in the books he's a cool, game he is annoying.

Here's what killed Deus Ex for me, You are supposed to have thing choice of either fighting or stealthing. The first boss you encounter can't stealth past him so guess what, if you went for stealth upgrades, your boned.

The boss battles in God of War III is what made me stop playing. I think it was the battle with the devil. As a kid I would have played it for hours to beat it. As an adult I don't have the patience, or frankly, the skill.

HA! For me All the God of Wars were such an awesome game story and idea completely blown. But I am also one who completely hates the "puzzle room for no reason" and the MOST ANNOYING of gaming mechanics, the "earning" of a new power that's only purpose to make puzzles even more dumb...

Oh you must be talking about every tomb raider afterwards. However that is how a I feel about Street Fighter type games. That whole genre is not for me at all.

So, I have a bunch of old NES and SEGA games that I just can't part with (even though I never play them).

I am looking for a quality console that is updated and can play one or both of those formats. I have way more NES than SEGA cartridges.

Does anyone have a suggestion or experience with something like the Retron (1, 2, or 3) or the FN Twin? Amazon and eBay have plenty of sellers, I just don't want to buy a lemon and I don't feel like asking some nerdy clerk at a Game Stop.

Thanks. That is the Retron 3, which looks like it is going to be my best bet. Hopefully the negative comments were overblown.

I bought a top-loader nes a long time back that worked fine. But since that wont be an option really as time goes by...

I would say this Retron 3 is worth a shot. Not real cheap at 60$ but not a lot of options either. Emulators just...dont cut it for me. If I still had all my NES games and such, I would try this without question. I poked around some of the poor reviews as well. I guess I would take them with a grain of salt as you are talking about working with media that could be literally 30 years old.

There is also this one:

But looks to be Ninendo only.

In my experience it's never as fun as you think it's going to be when you play an old, old game. The nostalgia of it is better than the real thing.

Games to Play Update:

Finished Bioshock Infinite and it was also amazing, although not as universally so as Last of Us.

Last of Us I can recommend to just about any gamer.

Bioshock, I cant really do so. The story is more complicated, the "universe" is a bit different. But everything technical about the game was fantastic, from the actors, to story, to gameplay. There are some parts of the game that are just amazing and the detail of the world they create (a 1920's cyberpunk feel) is also incredible. They went out of their way to ensure the story was complete, followed continuity, and provided a pretty amazing detective-type feel for the game. The characters are excellent and the game really unfolds to a mind-blower ending that will leave you thinking about it.

The only real complaint I had was also a strength... You have clues and supplies and treats everywhere. The bad news is that a large part of the story-telling is done through these clues (similar to other Bioshocks if you played). You will find enough of these without going out of your way to look to get a pretty good idea of the story, but with this story, the details are very important, at least for geeks like myself (without spoiling anything). So I was disappointed when I saw some elements of the story that I didnt find or the like and later read online which only made the story that much better for me, but after the fact.

Worth every cent of 60$ bucks I spent or the 20$ that others should. I dont think it will beat out Last of Us for game of the year, but it is a VERY worth title worth of its praise as well.

And that is VERY true. A while back I spent a bunch of money re-buy systems and all the old games I just loved. They arrived and it might have been the best weekend I could remember. Invited old gamer friends, got hammered and played all these games. Then after the weekend?

I dont think it came out of the box again. But that is how I would do it all over again... When that weekend was over, wrap it all up with great care and protection to break out again in a few years for another weekend.

Same thing happens when I go to retro arcades with a lot of old games where you pay to get in and play for free. You will play most of the games you remember and wonder why you stuck in 1 quarter let alone many.

But there are a few that will stand the test of time...other you will like to play through just one last time, like Zelda and Final Fantasy if you are fan.

I will still put my Super Dodge Ball play against anyone on the planet! Team India and Rajiv+Swami 4 evah!
