I'm NOT saying Kane NEEDS to hit, or that he NEEDS to win faceoffs. What I am saying is that if ALL he is is a nifty scorer, he isn't living up to his role. 23 goals doesn't count for jack shit. I can live with 23 goals from a dude who hits and wins battles in the corners and wins faceoffs. I can't live with it from a guy who does none of the above. So, in essence we're paying for a no-hitting, no faceoff winning, scoring machine who ain't scoring.

All those little things aren't a part of his game, so he needs to be piling up the numbers, which he isn't doing.

Dewey rant with alot of "z" in 5-4-3-2....

If he's JUST a playmaker then he was 25th best in the league, and would have been tied for 3rd on Detroit.

I like the kid, don't get me wrong. I also realize he isn't good enough to be causing us any off the ice problems.

Jesus Christ. His numbers slipped for ONE season. And he still put up more points than 90% of the NHL.

If we're having the same conversation next year, then I'll listen. One season is not a trend.

You can't disagree with the fact that he has unlimited potential..he can be an amazing player but that's up to him at this point.

Don't know who was saying that, but for what Kane is supposed to bring to the table, a lot of that translates to points.

You know what killed Kane's numbers the most this year? That God-awful power play. Yeah, he's a part of that problem, too. I get that.

This year, Kaner had 54 points at even strength. Previous four years, in reverse order: 49, 59, 35, 44.

[Update to add link] http://espn.go.com/nhl/player/stats/_/id/3735/patrick-kane

So you could rather easily make the argument that Kaner's individual play, at 5-on-5, didn't actually dip at all. His overall numbers just suffered because he, and the rest of the team, couldn't do a damn thing on the power play.

How is it a poor man's excuse?

How is it not something worth talking about when those are the only numbers that dropped? I spelled it all out for you. Now refute it.

Isolating even strength minutes are actually a totally acceptable and logical way of analyzing a players ture performance (see CORSI) good find.

you are looking to cherry pick situations to make a case for Kane being good. Did the PP suck? yep. Did a lot of that fall on Kane in unit 1? yep. Size in the PP played a major role this year with Kane on the PP, teams changed their ways on the PK when he was out there. Teams used to give him open ice and he was deadly, now they chance it by throwing pressure with 2 players and he would turn the puck over time and time again.

Also his OPS took a nose dive from:
6.9 to 5.3 and was an 8.1 the stanley cup year.
DPS was a 2.2 in the stanley cup year than in order: 1.7, 1.6
Numbers trend shows a drop each year in the last 3 years.

Goals rank: 69th
Assists: 25th
Points: 33rd
+/-: 145th
PPg: 120th
Shots Taken: 21st
Shooting %: 9.1 which ranks 312

Is he elite? no
Is there potential to be elite? yes

Which is why you don't trade him when you believe that his value is low... if anything, the Blackhawks should sit him down and talk etiquette and then have a good off-season and keep him at one position all year instead of having him play 3 different spots throughout the season (Center, then Right Wing, then Center again, and some Left Wing in playoffs).

Kane is a good hockey player, like any great player ur game has to adapt to what teams are trying to do to you. Kane was also trying to learn how to play center as well. In the end I feel that Kane will learn his paycheck.

I agree he can be a great playmaker but I do think he's got a lethal shot, both on the forehand and backhand.

Remember this?

Patrick Kane first career hat trick! Game 6 WCSF Canucks @ Hawks - YouTube

That's not the only goal he's scored like that.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hfz0QddsWc]patrick kane backhander snipe vs detroit - 2009 nhl playoffs - YouTube[/ame]

He can get to 30 or 40 goals if he'd shoot the damn puck more.

shoot the damn puck more? he ranked 21st in the league for shots taken.

Man, you and reading comprehension don't talk much, do you?

The entire point of my post was that Kane has, historically, gotten a fair chunk of his points on the PP. Since the power play sucked this year, his PP numbers reflected that. I also said in my post that he is obviously part of the blame for that. That was it. You then took off in a direction that I don't have the map to, because my brain works still.

His OPS numbers would suffer, too, because of those facts, because OPS doesn't factor in the PP/PK/even situations, to my knowledge, just overall points.

I even said Kane wasn't an elite guy last year.

But go ahead and twist my words around again.
