I joked about the same thing, haha, what ever it is, Stalberg not playing is a big loss in speed, if we lose this game, Q will have to answer alot of questions regarding this decision.

The first line better pot a few tonight. I'm more concerned about 19/20 getting their A-game going.

If the Hawks lose, it's not because of sitting a 3rd/4th line forward.

Stalberg is capable of some serious point production as long as he thinks the opponent is the Blue Jackets.

Reports are saying that Stalberg was bitching about his lack of powerplay time, so Q responded with sitting his ass today.

The Kings barely made the playoffs last year. And everyone keeps saying we "swept the wings" but we actually beat them once, were fortunate to win one in OT and tied them 2 times. and the wings have gotten several players back from IR since then. This series will not ne easy.

Kings were one of the best teams in the league at the second half of the season the year they won the cup. They turned their team around when they hired a new coach and made a game changing trade. Plus they had Quick. Howard is no Quick. It will be a cake walk because unlike the Kings the Wings are not good.

Mikael Samuelsson out for game 1. Hawks can breath a heavy, collective sigh of relief.

Still would rather see Stalberg demoted to the 4th and removed from the PP than scratched - we don't need Carcillo against the Wings - so that if late in the 3rd or OT we need someone with fresh legs and speed he's available, but if sitting him tonight makes him play with more attitude, though it sounds like his attitude - bitching about PP time is why he's sitting, so much the better. Hope it's just for tonight. Anyway most important thing is a Hawks victory tonight.

He did take the Mighty Ducks to the 2003 Cup finals.

Still, I agree with the premise of your post and find his situation somewhat similar to Joe Torre's, when he took over as manager of the Yankees.

I think he intially just had a 1yr 775K.....then signed a 2yr for 800K. This is year 1 of that deal

Hell...Burish got a 4yr - 7.2mil dollar deal with SJ...I'd take carbomb for his deal as a 10-12th forward

If I am the player I want Burish, if I am the GM I pass on both.

I'm sure he's in, unless, they're keeping it a hush, hush game time decision. NHL Network has already said that Samuelsson is expected to miss tonight's game and that Stalberg is a healthy scratch.

Never taken so much heat for being confident in the Blackhawks before. I don't think I'm being cocky by saying the Redwings aren't much of a threat. Too many people looking at the logo on the jersey of Detroit and not the team that's wearing it. I get it..it's a rivalry..and its the 2nd round of the playoffs so as a fan you shouldn't set yourself up for disappointment or to take the opposition lightly esp when they come off an upset in round 1. But..that's the job of the players wearing the Hawks jersey... not me. I have so much faith in the maturity and compete level of the Hawks to do just that..not take the Wings lightly..another reason they will win this series.

Im largely disappointed in Stalberg if this is all true. Good for Q for sending the message if it is true. My Stalberg love just dropped. Stupid time to let your ego become bigger than the team. Yet Q will get trashed as a bad coach around here still.

Good coaches can still make bad decisions. They aren't exempt from them. Doesn't mean he's horrible.

of course but like goalies the coach is an easy one to point the finger at. Q gets heat all the time for things that really aren't fully his fault. For example it's not fully his fault the guys on the Hawks PP can't produce worth crap..yet he and the coaching staff get the blame because of the "system they play on the PP" or the "PP lines". At some point you have to call out the players on the PP for not producing not the coaches. When the PK is outstanding (which it has been all season) the credit goes to the players on the ice right? If one is going to complain about the coaching on the PP then they should also applaud it for the PK system and the PK lines. But no one does this. It's backwards to me. It's just easy scapegoating sometimes. But we can go on about the PP until the dogs come home lol.

Also like 2010 Q was solid with what he did with Buff. Not just getting him to produce as a forward but to quiet him around the press durring the Canucks series..that was huge in my opinion. Q is a player coach. He knows how to deal with personalities and ego and how to focus his player and how to avoid distraction. Like PMX always says..he has a pulse on the team and his players. Hes a good players coach..always has been.

But in this situation.....bad. Unless Stalberg was THAT out of line. It's not just the placement of a single player, it's the entire line that's been affected by this, a line that has played very well for the Hawks and of which a lot of people have rightly credited a big reason for their success this year.

But you can't have a player starting to dictate where they should be playing. Esp a 3rd liner like Stalberg. You know I'm a fan of his and the Hawks 3rd line in general. I don't want Stalberg being a coach..I want him to be a hockey player. Didn't see Kane complaining about playing center last year when we all knew very well he really didn't want to be doing that. That speaks volumes to the rest of the team..complaining about it sends a different message. I have never seen a fellow player I have played with in any sport question a coach then have the outcome fall in their favor. Not sure why people try. No doubt Q has an ego himself as most coaches do. You don't tread on a coaches ego unless you are an owner or a gm. Players get paid to play not coach..and they get paid well. Coaches get paid to coach.

I guess the biggest thing with all of this is how did Stalberg address this? In private with the coach or in public? If it were in private then I don't know why Q didn't just tell the media Stalberg was sitting out for other reasons and then tell the team the real reason. No real need to air dirty laundry to the public either. That would be the wrong move by Q. So I am assuming Stalberg bitched about this in a public forum...dumber move by Stalberg if that were the case.

While I think Stalbergs speed will be missed in game 1 I think they will still be fine. I actually expect the Hawks top 2 lines to carry this series anyways and for the 3rd to have little impact. He will be back by game 2 with a message sent regardless. We will see what happens.

Biggest concern for game one is seeing how the Hawks react to a long rest period while the Wings are probably still running on game 7 adrenaline. Won't shock to see the Wings control the play a bit more than the Hawks early in the game. Hopefully home ice for the Hawks will help the Hawks..I think it will.

But a player can't dictate that no matter what he says. The coach is still coach. Play him 4th line or 5th line in practice, fine. Make your point that way. Sitting him out a playoff game which is probably going to be dictated by the one thing he has over every other player on the ice? That's a risk. Disrupting an entire line that has played very well for you the entire year? Even more of a risk.

Well he was missed in that 1st period Variable. 3rd line was pretty bad. Out hit 21-9 also. One way you avoid being hit is by being to fast to hit lol. We will see but so far it wouldn't have hurt to have him in the 1st period. But far too early yet.

Better 2nd period 17 shots more hitting. Bolland had a good period (hes having a good game dont believe PMX). Hes back playing 3rd line playoff Bolland style..even 83% in the circle. Stalberg might have problems breaking back into the lineup if Bolland keeps this up. What are the Hawks going to do to get Saads game up? He looks like he did against the Wild....pretty much invisible.

HOWEVER 1-1 after 2 is in Detroits favor. Maybe I under-estimated the Wings a bit too much and Howard? NAHHHHHH!! Eye rape in the 3rd. Hopefully the Wngs start feeling the 7 game series they just finished and the Hawks finish their chances which have been plenty.

Little worried about Craw getting cold back there. faced 5 shots in the 2nd period..non really threatening. That could be a bad thing but it also says a lot about the D again and the Hawks possession. 12 shots through 2 period? Can't ask for a better 2 periods as far as giving up shots.
