Orton sucked too. But Cutler is better imo which isnt saying much tho. Orton would piss me off sometimes. Dude is so boring to watch. 5 yard dump off. 7 yard pass. 5 yard pass. Etc.

Now rex was a fun sucky qb to watch.

I agree Orton was not an answer. But the fact remains that the spread between the 2 of them is minimal at best.
The only real difference I see is that Cutler throws interceptions further downfield than Orton.

Yeah i agree. I always felt orton was a good game manager since we had killer defense. Definitely a safer qb.

True. Too damn bad Rex didn't get his yearly injury in 2006.
Rex was doing great till the league figured him out, and Orton may very well have forced Turner to stay with the run in the SB. Could have been the difference in the rain.
I had forgotten how horrible Rex became from Arizona on until I looked recently- Dude was killing it the first few weeks in 06, 10 tds, 3 picks, and a 100 rating.
From Arizona on, 13 tds and 17 ints, with a 61 rating.
For the rest of his stay in Chicago, it was 19 tds, 26 ints and a 63 rating. I have never seen a guy look so promising only to fall off such a cliff.

The thing with Orton is that he was forced to play so early due to the injury to Rex. I actually thought he made strides early on in 2008, then he got the high ankle sprain & his production dropped off a bit. Was never gonna be all-pro, but I thought he could be serviceable. Which is why I thought the trade for Cutler was surprising. I welcomed it, but still was wondering why they gave up that much for him.
I already knew from relatives/friends in Denver that Cutler was erratic.

THIS is my guy.

Deal with it.

See the problem here is your "Good" Jay Cutler doesn't show up nearly often enough while "Bad" Jay shows constantly and usually at the worst moments.

His 2013 highlight reel is 2:41 seconds, yet the video for his INTs vs just the Packers is over 5 minutes long for fucks sake.

You just knew a fumble or a "**** it, going deep" pass was coming every time (as did the opposing defense).

Orton sucked his first couple of years but became a fairly serviceable QB. He was good enough to start on many teams after Denver, but got stuck on the bench, that may have been what he wanted. I agree though, Kyle Orton was one of the most BORING QBs I have ever watched. At least Rex was exciting in either a good or bad way !

I always wonder if Cutler would last as a starting QB this long anywhere else. Or at least there would be at times a benching. Wasn't last year his first year to be benched in a game?

Yeah orton was very serviceable even up to his last year on the bills.

Angelo had to make that trade for Cutler, at that time QB was the biggest question mark of those teams and the potential of Cutler at that time made it worth trading for. 6 years later it is easy for us to say that the Bears were in no better position now as they were with Orton as the QB. And before some blow that statement out of proportion, I'm not saying Orton was a better QB...just saying the "upgrade" to Cutler was that much to make giving up Orton and 2 firsts worth it. Again this is all hindsight and at the time most fans were ok with the trade. But it is hard not to look back and think if the Bears kept Orton, and picked up stronger WR's along with the defense in place how would have things played out?

I'd argue oline was a bigger question mark, and was pretty much from 2007-12

This is where the Cutler bashers lose me; why does McCown's performance over a small amount of games have anything to do with Cutler's performance over a small numbers of games.

Cutler played well in 2013, and they just try to spin reality by somehow asserting McCown having a dream stretch of play somehow negates Cutler's play.

It doesn't and there is no logical point to be made there. Both Cutler and McCown played well in 2013 and were major reasons we had a damn good offense.

Unfortunately Cutler was much less accurate in 2014 in terms of when he needed to deliver the ball down the field. He boosted some states with dump offs and safety valve plays to Forte and Bennett , but was noticeably worse pushing the ball down the field. He just wasn't the same throwing the ball.

Cutler was actually pretty average in 2013. He was barely 4% above the league average in efficiency.

horseshit you guys orton or grossman neither one are even on cutlers level should have been nothing but backups neither were starting quality qb's

try again

wanna say the bears should have drafted carr or bridgewater or tannehill and you might have my attention but comparing those shitburgers to cutlers an insult to cutler and your own football iq's

No argument there, but I think O-line could have been addressed with the picks given up for Cutler. So potentially that question mark could have been alleviated through the draft
