I do agree that they need to stop the clock when the ball is dead, but only during the last 15 min or so. The best thing about soccer is that it's viewed for 90 minutes and not 3 hours. I don't think they would mess with that.

But it isn't really 90 minutes because they still add time at the end of each half. But perhaps you can stop it for any injury related stoppages as that would go a long way to curbing time wasting. For regular times when the ball is played out then no need to stop until the last 15 minutes like you suggest.

What should be avoid is a guy getting faking injury like Neymar and the game is stopped for like 5 minutes when we all know that the time added back is usually less than the actual time wasted.

I only suggested the last 15 min because that's when the leading team pulls that shit to waste time. Prior to the last 15 min both teams are usually playing hard barring a blowout. But regardless, they really need to figure out a way to force players from faking without elongating the viewing time too much. I'd hate for a soccer match to run 2.5-3 hours like other sports.

Soccer has the worst class of flopping in all of major sports, it also is the most corrupt officials all way from the top, down to the referees.

Best sport on the planet with nothing coming close, imo. Americans focus on flopping way too much. It's a miniscule part of the game. It's like dissing baseball because you don't like chewing tobacco.

As far as the timekeeping, I like it the way it is. I don't like the idea of stopping and starting the clock. There's a fourth official who keeps track of injury time and adds it appropriately. It works fine.

I picked France before the tournament started and I'm sticking to it, though their side of the bracket is loaded. Uruguay, Belgium and Brazil are all serious contenders. I hate that England got the easy ride and I hope Sweden beats them, though even if they get to the final they'll get stomped by any of the four teams they could meet.

I like the game of soccer, but it is the flopping that makes it a second rate sport. The chewing tobacco analogy is just horrible by the way. No one scored a game winning run based on tobacco. The right flop, combined with the standard ref bias can destroy world cups.

But it doesn't. Neymar is ridiculous, and is disliked even among fans of the game for it. But in general, flopping has far less of an impact on games than you think.

Lol, not sure how you can call it a second rate sport when it is the most popular sport in the world. American's are funny sometimes.

Fair enough. I would just add injury to that as well. If a player gets hurt before the last 15 then the clock should stop IMO.

Well it's not just Neymar. He just gets more press because he's acts like a spoiled brat. Everyone does it to some extent. The stakes are too high not to if you think it will help.

The fact is when scoring is as difficult as it is in Soccer and 60% of games are decided by a goal, getting a favorable call particularly in the penalty area is the smart thing to do.

To most Americans it is. Yeah, we realize it's popular in all those other countries but we don't give a **** cause we know what real football is!

The diving itself doesn't bother me as much. It's been part of the game for a long time and it won't change anytime soon. What bothers me is the level to which some players have taken this diving....ie: England against Colombia, or Neymar vs every team. As far as diving goes, this doesn't happen only in soccer. NFL players(QBs and Kickers) and NBA players dive all the time.

Diving is rampant in swimming.

It's even worse in diving. Greg Louganis was the worst.

Looks like Mbappe just got a yellow card for faking/exaggerating injury. Neymar better be careful as if he gets one for his antics, he would be out of the semifinal match.
