  1. Chicago Cubs

  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Arizona Wildcats
I say Trade Frolik, Bolland and Hammer.
Resign: Mayers, Lepisto
Let Go: Brunnette, S O D, Id like to keep ODuya but I dont think we can.
Option 1 Sign Parise and a Big D man.
Option 2 Sign Suter and sign or trade for a big name name Forward. Jordan Staal would work for me.
If we sign Parise
Parise-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Staal/Roy-Hossa
Bickell-Kruger-Shaw
Stalberg-Mayers-Carcillo

Keith-Seabrook
Whoever we sign as a second pairing D-Leddy
Olsen-Lepisto/Montador

If we sign Suter
Stalberg-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Staal/Roy(whoever we trade for)-Hossa
Bickell-Kruger-Shaw
Bollig-Mayers-Carcillo

Keith-Seabrook
Suter-Leddy
Olsen-Lepisto/Montador

Crawford
Emery

This is what I would do. Im hoping Brandon Saad can come and play in the NHL next year but I think it would be better for him to play a year in Rockford. Maybe we can Bolland if we arent comfortable enough without him on the team. Then obviously we cant trade for a guy like Jordan Staal or Derek Roy. But Id like to see us get better at the second line center spot because I feel like Kruger can handle the 3rd line center spot. As you can see if we sign Parise, our D would be pretty bad unless Leddy takes a step forward and Olsen can step up. It also depends on who we can sign to be our number 3 or 4 Defenseman. Let me know what you guys think because this is my first post on the board.

Have you checked this roster in regards to the salary cap? it seems like we would be over...

we would actually have to break his post down before we can say yay or nay that it would be over. we would have to look at going rates for players and their skillsets in FAcy and insert trades and their cap hit. it would have to be done manually to get an idea of where his post would be at.

Yea I wasnt really looking at Cap numbers very closely I was kinda going off the top of my head. So as the team sits now we have rougly 7 mil in cap space. You trade Bolland, Frolik and Hammer and that adds. Dave Bolland is at 3.3, Frolik is at 2.3, and Hammer is at 3.5. So take the 7mil we have and add the cap space from the 3 were up to around 16. You trade for Staal at 4mil a year. Were at 12 mil in space left. Resign Mayers and Lepisto for Leage Minimum that adds another 1.5 so were at 10.5 Mil to sign Parise/Suter and a Big D Man. You Figure Parise would require a contract around 7-7.5 mil. Say he signs for 7mil we have 3.5 mil left. Sharps extension kicks in so minus 2 Mil. So we have 1.5 left to find another DMan. Thats cutting it close. If we sign Suter which should be around 6 Mil. We have 4.5 Mil left over factor in the Sharp extension which is another 2.5 mil Cap hit we will have 2 mil left over. which should be enough to sign a solid defenseman.

Thats a really nice way of saying: "That roster would be at least 20% over the cap"

Actually, if you use this year's salaries, it comes out to $57.908 million.

Suter was at 3.5 mil this year, that's going up to at least 8, so let's add 4.5 million for him.

Zach Parise was at 6 million. Add at least 2 million to that.

Those are probably conservative guesses.

Staal/Roy made 4.0 million this year. If you trade for Staal, whose contract expires after next season, you have to re-sign him. The guy is the same age as Toews and Kane and has a fantastic future ahead of him. Add a few million for him, too.

That adds up to $66.5 million in total cap, and you're still missing a few more players on your roster (Only had 18 skaters and 2 goalies).

I'd heard the salary cap could jump up to $69 million next year, but that could be premature with an undecided CBA out there.

Check CapGeek.com, that was my source.

heres a piece by JJ

Someone mentioned it before: those second "weaker-looking" concussions after a concussion are brutal on guys. Crosby and Savard had a second much weaker bump that set them out for long periods. I could definitely see him being LTIR'd.

While your math is correct, I have a very, very hard time believing that that Suter signs for 6 million. Even Parise at 7-7.5 million could be a stretch ... I also don't think the Devils are going to allow him to leave town.

Ryan Suter signing here would mean they're serious about another run at a Cup.

But wise cap management could also mean they're looking a long run. There are two sides to every story.

Ryan Suter would be a hell of an addition to the team. But he's not the only option.

or just being a business and trying to be a cash machine if they dont make significant changes. anyone who thinks we dont need significant changes is fooling themselves.

Sure signing Suter helps shore up the top 4.

It doesn't help 2nd line center, and signing Suter alone would reduce the chance the Hawks fill that hole via free agency.

The Eagles in the NFL spent a crapload of money last offseason and they fell flat on their face.

Spending money =/= to showing a commitment to winning.

Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Cubs. Both teams overpaid players by $30M+ so the team would be more valuable to sell. That's not a commitment to winning.

still would rather see a guy Tomas Plekanec or Derek Roy as #2 center.

I'd argue, but the word "significant" would get debated just as obnoxiously as the words "elite" and "untouchable" were. So there's really no point.

Under contract thru 2016 and 2013, respectively.

I agree with you, but there's a long list of guys I'd love at the 2C role. Getting them when they're already under contract is the problem.

It would take a ridiculous haul to land a top-flight 2C in a trade. Paul Gaustad, a 4C, required a 1st round pick at the deadline.

yeah I guess if they dont make significant changes and just make avg changes they might get passed the first round. unbelievable.

Derek Roy would be a good #2 center, the problem with him is he can't stay consistent. That may not be the case in Chicago with better linemates and an offensive minded team
