Yes. Now you see how even as shitty as the Bears can be, they weren’t nearly as shitty this year as the Texans.

So to say an 8-8 Bears team with still a pretty good defense will suddenly go 4-12 if they get Deshaun Watson and become a mirror image of Houston doesn’t have a lot of basis in evidence.
The defense wont be "pretty good" after a bunch of guys walk because Watson left no cap space. And the idea of cheap reinforcements coming from the draft? Good luck with that when the Bears first pick every year will be in the eighties.

Without the QB, you have nothing.

You got a great CB? Great, doesn’t matter.

You got an All Pro linebacker? Fuck you. No one gives a shit.

No cost is too high, because without a quarterback, you’re a dead team walking.
Still does not guarantee much... >cough< >cough< Aaron Rodgers comes to mind. How many Superbowl wins he have? As many as Trent Dilfer? Or Dan Marino had how many?

Their best player, arguably the best player in the league, was literally a first round pick of the Rams.

That was 6 years ago. They haven’t made a 1st round pick in 4 years and won’t for another 4 years and they still are way better than the Bears.

Good players > Picks

OK I'll try and say this less ambiguously.

Aaron Donald, best player on Rams. Aaron Donald, probably the biggest individual reason for the Rams sustained success. The Rams drafted Aaron Donald in the first round of the National Football League Draft.

The Bears current starting quarterback for 2021 won a Super Bowl three years ago.

We heard that constantly after we acquired him, and clearly, that player, has flown the coop

Of course there are no guarantees. It’s sports. But trying to win the sport’s ultimate prize is infinitely more difficult without a good-to-great quarterback. We’ve seen it time and time and time again. It’s not even arguable.

I'd offer 3 first round picks for every ACL torn on Watson. So, 6 picks plus a bonus pick since he's torn both ACLs and not the same one. The lower back injury gets some provisionals.

Hell no. Get him. Figure that shit out. You want some defensive players? Awesome! Roquan and JJ might be in the convo and although I think highly of both, they have some red flags with injuries (plural).

Think about this. Rams gave up 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks, and some thirds to pick Goff, then they give up two more to get rid of him and acquire Stafford.

3 first round picks for Watson? Sign me up. Set for a damn decade +
Some of you Forget That it takes a team of players to win And if you can't replenish your roster because you keep giving away your draft picks You're not going to win

Do you not understand that his cap hit to the Bears would be a paltry $10.5M next season, 32nd among QB's. Then 6th in 2022 when the Bears have $100M in cap space , and 5th in 2023 and that is even before the next round extensions that will send his relative cost even lower.

This argument is cap ignorant.

People interpreted the Trestman era as you can’t build around offense and ignore defense completely or be terrible on that end. The truth is you actually can, you just can’t have Jay cutler as QB. And nobody is suggesting the Bears “ignore” defense but even if the first year or two the defense struggles with Watson the offense can still carry the Bears far.

The Packers and Seahawks defenses are not good. The Bucs is inconsistent. The titans play no defense.

If you have a QB you have a chance any year even with no defense.

People complaining about giving away the players and draft picks are being very shortsighted. Would losing all those assets hurt in the next 2-3 years? Yes. Would having the QB position solved help the rest of the team for the next decade? Yes.

Also people acting like giving up giving up two 1s and 2s plus JJ/Roquan would turn us into 4-13 team are wrong. This team was 8-8 last year with god awful QB play. IMO the gains on on O would at the very least offset the regression on D. So you may have a couple years of mediocrity with Watson, big deal he’ll be here for 10+ years!

Or Watson could transform this team into something similar to the McCarthy Packers (great QB with a shit D) for a couple years before the Bears get 1s and 2s again. Not good enough still but again he’ll be for 10+ years!!

Even if they just plain suck ass for 3-4 years and are 3-14/4-13 during that time, Watson will still be here for 10+ years!!

Rodgers has made the playoffs 10/12 seasons. I would take that, plus 1 SB win over what the Bears have done last 35 years.

It's either the bonanza of picks or the 2 potentially great defensive starters still on their rookie deals. You have to be Phil Emery levels of stupid to give up both

What is the difference between 8-9 with a “go awful quarterback” and 5-12 with a future hall of famer?
The only reason I don’t want to trade away next years # 1 is because it will probably be a high draft pick and something that we could use to up grade a o lineman or defense.
