I didn't know that part. I knew he got traded there in sprint '99 but didn't know he wanted to be traded there. I thought at that time that he was losing it a bit on defense and the team was just running him out of Chicago as we did with JR, Belfour, and others. Why did he want to be traded there?

Could be - the Wings won the cup in '97 and '98 so maybe he wanted to go there to win another one late in his career. Back in '99 I don't think anyone thought he would play more than a couple more years - and then he went on for 10 more. But I thought Cheli was from Chicago - grew up here.
