Exactly. The McCaskeys are never hiring some top coaching prospect.

Bill Cowher, Bruce Arians, Jim Harbaugh, Brian Daboll....the wishlist is always funny.

...you can always count in the Bears to hire a coach worse than the one before.
Brian Daboll sucks.

Unless he was overruled, I am out on a HC that looked at Daniel Jones and decided he was worth 40 million. Bears at least had the sense to move on from their mediocre QB. 82 million in cap space wasted assuming they move on after this year.
I look at that he actually made Daniel Jones somewhat serviceable. I wish I could remember what I believe Cecil Lammey said about that contract. I think it was they can get out of it pretty easy and didn't like the other options. It was a while back but I think that was the gist of it.

They can get out of it this year with 82 million spent and 22 milliom dead cap hit.

Meh, cap is crap. Any team can work around it if they so choose. regardless, Caleb isn't going anywhere any time soon and I have no issue with Daboll on the short list since Poles makes the decisions. Ben Johnson still #1, same as last year. I'm more weary on Slowik than last year because he hasn't done a good job working around a bad OL in Houston this year so far.

Wants the job
Best OC out there
In demand and prob wants decent money

3 strikes against him for the McClownsky family
But he might have the secret words that will instantly win him the job, "Beat the Packers". He says that to George and he is in.

To be quite honest with everyone, I think we should go after belichek. Ben Johnson looks like a great offensive mind and I have been on record saying that we need consistency on the offensive side of the ball with our young qb, but now I think Belichek is the better choice. The thing about up and coming OCs is a lot of times they make awful head coaches. Caleb is already the best QB we have had and he’s not even halfway through his first season. I always made excuses for Jay Cutler, no having consistency, but Caleb is already better. I’d rather go get someone who has the experience. I doubt we will catch lightning in a bottle. I think some QBs need an offensive mastermind running the show and some just need a quality play caller. Caleb just needs a quality play caller and experience. Therefore, I’d probably elect to go the route that worked for Tom Brady and Peyton Manning and go get a proven defensive guy.

Having said all of that, I doubt belichek comes here and I would still be happy with Ben Johnson as our HC. Next year is the year we start contending if we make a few good moves this off-season. I’m not too upset we didn’t pick a HC last season given we are still rebuilding, especially if Poles didn’t like any of the candidates.

82 million spent is a lot when team has been garbage past 2 years. I would definitely have Slowik ahead of him.

IS he bringing the lions OL?

Cause we'd have a lot of the same issues on offense without that OL
I think we still get to draft players even if we change coaches.

Like I said, cap is whatever for the most part and he wouldn't have that power here. I'm fine with all 3, just Ben Johnson first.

My point is more so his evaluation skills. Pretty much every said Dan Jones was a scrub and he still convinced the GM to give Jones 40m a year.

They then let Barkley walk because they didnt feel they had the money to pay him. Seems some of that 82m would have come in handy resigning Barkley so it isnt whatever.

One would hope Poles would do a better job with OL resources this offseason to help protect Williams. I mean he has to or he will be fired

Where are the 9 wins coming?
I think it takes 10 to stick unless he's gets much better at game management. Big calls, red flags, timeouts/clock, choices about FGs and extra points etc. None of that has been perennial HC worthy. He had to show that this year.

That and he's not much help with the harder side of the ball.

Yeah, it's whatever. If they wanted to pay Barkley, they easily could have. Daniel Jones or not. The cap is crap. Owners that are willing to pay the dollars have no issue subverting it. Regardless, you're still missing the point and turning this into a completely irrelevant argument, per usual.

No missing the point. I just dont think Daboll would be a good hire. You do.

I mean, you think contract extensions and talent evaluation (of one player) is why he is a bad hire. That's pretty dumb tbh. He isn't gonna be the GM, he isn't a scout. Caleb wouldn't be going anywhere. Criticize what he's done as a coach and maybe there's a better conversation.

I guess I missed where the Giants are a good team. Guess he has no role in that at all.
