I applaud him for that, but consistency is the key here. If he can do that consistently over the course of his career then he's great. As it is, he hasn't and is on the opposite side of the mountain in his career.

He has hit 25 HR 90+ RBI 9 of last 10 years, 10 of last 12 years, how more consistent can you be?

Last 7 of 8 years he alos hit .289+. talk about consistent

His average was high, but he's getting paid to produce runs, and he ultimately produced them....in June on when the season was out of hand.

He drove in 9 runs a month for April and May....

A quote of his

What are the odds of him coming back to the Cubs?

"I don't know right now," Ramirez said. "Once I hit the market, I'll have a better idea of what's going on. The chances to come back here don't look real good right now."

Should I do what you did when I made a similar comparison and LOL at you comparing Aramis Ramirez with Tony Campana? Or can we just agree that it has no bearing on this discussion about whether Ramirez hits when "it counts" which the definition of that changes to fit this "number-gather" theory.
I wasn't comparing their numbers, I was comparing what I read off of this board.

I'll respect Bob Brenly's opinion more than most anyone else on the current Cubs team.

So think about what he did to get to 90+ AGAIN!!! there is nothing you can say that makes him a bad opition for Cubs in 2012 and beyond. His career stats tell you everything you need to know. He has been top 3B for last 10 years and still is! So until he proves he not a top 3B there is NO REASON he should be gone. I swear Cub fans dont care about winning. They just have to love players hustle and blah, blah, blah. I want players who PRODUCE EVERY YEAR like A-Ram does!!

That is fine if you want to respect Bob Brenly's opinion. Bob Brenly initially applauded for Carlos Zambrano for going off on Derrek Lee in the dugout. Just because the guy has a ring, doesn't mean that he is right about everything baseball.

I think the odds are pretty good that Ramirez will be gone and many here will get their wish. I just can't wait to hear the bitching about the Dewitt/Baker platoon's production the entire season next year.

Its cause he doesnt know what Cubs plan on doing. His agent came out later and said if Cubs plan on competiting that Cubs will be on a VERY SHORT LIST! It all depends on what Ricketts and the new GM plan on doing. If they going to go young then yes he wants to be given chance to win. If they decide to spend like a big market team he will come back.

Let me ask this, do you agree with anything Brenly said about Ramirez in this interview?

People ***** about A-Ram DEF at 3B, cant wait to see how bad they ***** when DeWitt has 30 Errors at 3B next year and hit .250 8 HR 40 RBI. So lets get a WORSE DEF of 3B and guy who cant even come close to a All Star 3B

Just because the Cubs don't sign Ramirez doesn't 3B is going to be epically awful, and even if it is, the Cubs can't get much worse, and even if they do, higher picks to build the farm.

I agree that he isn't a good defensive player and that he doesn't always run plays out. I disagree with the importance of those things (please note that I didn't say they were unimportant it is the level of importance that I disagree).

I agree his DEF is not good but i also DISAGREE saying he not Clutch. A-Ram has been one of the top league hitters with RISP for while now.

You've seen the names available for 3B on the team and in free agency. Which one of those options isn't going to be epically bad?

I'd like to see a platoon of Dewitt/Baker. Ideally I'd like to acquire David Wright, but I don't see it happening.

It seems silly to me that we can't say Ramirez will be bad in the postseason, yet every other option for the Cubs 3B next season will definitely be epically bad.

Wilson Betemit (30)
Casey Blake (38)
Jorge Cantu (30)
Eric Chavez (34)
Craig Counsell (41)
Mark DeRosa (37)
Greg Dobbs (33)
Edwin Encarnacion (29) - $3.5MM club option with a $500K buyout
Jerry Hairston Jr. (36)
Kevin Kouzmanoff (30)
Andy LaRoche (28)
Felipe Lopez (32)
Jose Lopez (28)
Nick Punto (34)
Aramis Ramirez (34) - $16MM club option with a $2MM buyout; Ramirez can void
Omar Vizquel (45)

Tell me how any of those guys put anything close to A-Ram. THEY CANT. Then on Cubs your options are DeWitt/Baker, LeMaheu, and Vitters. LMAO

You just LOST ALL RESPECT on saying you want to see Dewitt/Baker platoon. I rather JUST pay A-ram then lose more prospects and pay Wright who is SO inconsistent. A-Ram is ALOT better player then Wright. If you think A-ram is bad at 3B, DeWitt makes A-Ram look like gold glove.

Because there is far more volatility in postseason numbers than regular season numbers. You are right that it isn't impossible that we get lightning in a bottle at 3B, but since I spent more than half of my life hoping the Cubs could do that at 3B I hope you can see why I am reluctant to go back to that.

A-Ram with 14 E in 145 games this year

DeWitt with 5 E in 14 games this year at 3B..plus 2 more at 2B in just 18 games. SO 7 E in 34 games. So lets take 145/34= 4.2..Now let Multiply 4.2 times 7 = 30..So he would have been on pace for 30 E this year. A-Ram had HALVE of that..Im not disagreeing that A-ram good DEF of 3B but DeWitt would be 10 X worse. So be carefull what you wish for when losing A-Ram cause he dont hustl every damn GB out. Guess what either does Pujols. I rather have A-Ram not hustle every thing out and play 145 games then Hustle everything out and only play 100 Games cause he blows hammy
