Only weakness in Kobe's game is that he is extremely selfish sometimes.

Kobe may be more competitive than most. But was he anywhere near the level of Jordan in that regard? No. I think sometimes Kobe's cockiness is mistaken for competitiveness.

According to those who know him and work with him...he is one of the most competitive people in NBA history. And I think its the other way around...Kobe's competitiveness is mistaken for cockiness.

I guess I don't understand the "cockiness" and the "entitlement" stuff you label Kobe...and how is that different from Jordan?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
I guess I could see an entitled Kobe in how he acted in running Shaq out of town. But, I definitely see a firey Kobe on and off the court. I see a man who wants to win and won't be satisified with only 5 titles.

Well, I never saw Jordan sit at a press conference down 0-2 or 0-3 in a series and sit there with a smile on his face saying that everybody was overreacting to the situation at hand. You may have a point about both Jordan and Bryant being cocky and competitive but I feel as though Jordan had the better mentality in gloomy situations and wouldn't put up with his teammates clowning around like Bryant did last year (namely Odom and Artest).

What I'm getting at is when it comes to leadership... not even close. Jordan was the better leader. Emotionally and on the court. By example and by putting a boot in someone's ass. Jordan was a psychopath in ways I don't see with Kobe.

Kobe is considered one of the most surly athletes to the media there is. He is criticized for taking the game too seriously if anything. But I think that is nitpicking. And because Kobe doesn't open chastise players doesn't mean he condones their actions.

Then you haven't been paying attention because that is Kobe's reputation. Why do you think Bird said what he said about Kobe recently?

You said yourself that Jordan has the mental advantage over Bryant. Bryant holds his players accountable in general but it did not happen last year. Odom and Artest were hollywood as hell. Jordan has always been obsessed about winning and leading in ways so extreme that it makes competitive players like Kobe like relatively normal.

Odom and Artest were hollywood...Rodman wasn't....yeah OK!!!

Tex Winters and Phil Jackson talked of Kobe's competitiveness being on par with Jordan.

And when I talked of mental edge, I am speaking of mind and body being in tune, and Jordan being able to impose his will on a ballgame unlike any other player I have seen. I am not talking about yelling at teammates.

And Rodman also had one of the most legendary work ethics of all-time during his time with the Bulls. Artest came into last season out-of-shape and this season, as well. Odom looked like a zombie towards the end of last season and in the playoffs. Kobe didn't seem to give off the impression that anything was going wrong. Even with Pau Gasol also stinking up the court.

LOL...you make this stuff up as you go along. Right, Rodman was kept in line by Jordan...so much so that Jackson would suspend and bench him for misconduct? Even in the playoffs? Again, what were you watching? And with the Lakers getting embarrassed the way they were towards the end of the season and in the playoffs, you don't think that affected Kobe? What did you want him to do? Cry? Oh yeah, he did that years earlier when the Lakers lost to the Spurs in the playoffs, on television. He is older now and doesn't have to have temper tantrums.

I got one guy calling Kobe basketball stupid...although Phil trusted Kobe to run huddles at times. Now you are saying Kobe is nonchalant when his team is losing and out of control. Where do you all get this stuff from?

I'm not saying he is nonchalant. What I'm saying is that he doesn't instill fear into his teammates like Jordan did. Jordan was on a whole other level when it came to intimidating his opponents and whipping his teammates into shape. Rodman was who he was and the team was so dominant from 1996-1998 that Dennis' craziness didn't really affect the team on the court in a negative way until late into the 1998 playoffs when he basically mentality did not show up for those last couple of games. Phil Jackson was the man responsible for keeping Rodman in line and, for the most part, he did a pretty good job with the exception of a few regular season game suspensions here and there. When he played, he played balls to the wall and put everything on the line. He also was an absolute beast in the weight room and developed and legendary work-out routine. I have the greatest respect for Rodman (the player) and stood in line for hours here in Rockford and even paid money for his autograph.

It's too bad for Kobe Bryant that he didn't get mentally tough and started sharing the ball at the right times until his physical prime was already pretty much over. Jordan was always that kind of player from the second he came into the league.
