I’d bet that McDaniels would prefer a young QB like Trubisky than a vet like Eli Manning. It’d be much easier for him to mold, or control a young QB and would probably buy into the new system quicker.

That said, the Giants do have a top pick in the draft that could be used on a new potential QB of the future.

the narrative out there still has mcdaniels to the giants as a foregone conclusion. heard it on espn1000 earlier today that mcdaniels to the bears is slim to none.

didnt that get thrown out the window when they hired gettleman?

These idiots don't know what news to manufacture next. First they said McDipshit wanted GM power to be HC, then they paired McDummy with some other guy as GM and said they were headed to NY, then the real GM hire happened. Are they still saying McDouche is going to NY anyways? How many times can they possibly be wrong? The answer is every time.

Yeah I don't think it's a slam dunk he's going to the Giants. Just that I think this narrative that he wants full control of the 53 is ludicrous really. No one's giving that to him.

And I think if he's coming to Halas Hall for an interview we can be reasonably sure that he likes Trubisky. If he ends up at Giants I think they're taking a QB at 2.

Agreed if it is assumed McDaniels still wanted roster control.

McDaniels and OBJ in the same locker room is a recipe for fireworks lol. Then, what if he picked Baker Mayfield #2 overall. They would instantly become the most polarizing team in the NFL. I would love to know if McDaniels is in love with any of the QB prospects.

Hadn't though of OBJ and McDaniels. There are no divas in New England so it would be interesting!!

Sure hed be looking to the draft if he goes to NY.

I love how the implication here is the only reason to interview Edwards or Wilks is to fulfil the Rooney rule. Talk about the soft bigotry of low expectations.
Blame the Rooney rule itself for making people cynical of minority interviews. Law of Unintended Consequences.

5 pages of nothing. This will be a three horse race between Nagy, Flip and Shurmur.

Just curious why you don't consider McDaniels a possibility for the Bears?

I hope he is only interviewing McDaniels to do his broseph a solid making him sought after by other franchises he may have his eye on which don't on him. Pulled that one out of my ass right now. Ya like? About as much sense as the rest of these rumors.

I want no part of McDaniels...part of what makes Belichick great is being able to see or project how pieces fit into his puzzle, he grabbed Edelman, he pulled Welker out of Miami, he grabbed Woodhead who was very good here....he turns over his defense on purpose to avoid paying too much star money and he grabs rookies who are of value in short time periods....Regardless of whether you liked Cutler or not he basically dumped him and ended up w/ Tebow...no way man. I want him nowhere near this team.

Read something out of a Boston newspaper article, claiming that the Bears would be the best fit.
Also thought of something the other day, which of the coaches is most like Sean Peyton?
That would be McDaniels. I think Pace will feel like he can work with him. Not to mention McDaniels is getting the inside scoop from his brother, he’ll feel like he knows exactly what he’s walking into.

There is something urgent about the head coaching search.

Really what made me think so was when the Bears requested to interview George Edwards.

They already had Wilks coming in next week if they wanted to satisfy the Rooney Rule. However, what if they did not want to wait until next week? If they had their group of guys, why not wait until you meet with Wilks to satisfy the Rooney Rule?

To me, the fact that they want to interview George Edwards this week means they want a decision made quickly.

What this also says to me is that they know who they want already.

It would be someone who they are interviewing this week. Which means it would be either Shurmur, McDaniels, or DeFillipo.

There is another interesting component to this as well. Ben McDaniels is already an offensive assistant on the Chicago Bears staff. He is someone who has been a quarterbacks coach before. And he is someone Pace can use as a direct line to McDaniels without needing to worry about tampering charges.

The other interesting nugget that is just pure speculation on my part but I am considering none the less is whether or not they are using this week to interview people as head coaches with the thought in mind that they would actually be coordinators under Josh McDaniels.

George Edwards and coach Flip both have contracts that expire as soon as their teams lose.

It is entirely possible that coach Flip is the Adam gase of a few years ago when we all thought he was a head coach candidate but people felt he was too young still to hire.

At the very least, with McDaniels antics, if he still has a bit of asshole to him, coach Flip would be able to be a good cop to McDaniels bad cop. Plus with two creative Geniuses in the building, they could perhaps develop something really special in terms of an offensive scheme.

Even more important is the fact that Josh would it be inheriting a very young team. This would be different from Denver where you had veterans set in their ways and pissed off at a coach shaking up the routines. A younger team would be more open to how McDaniels wants to do things.

Let me say that McDaniels is not my primary choice. However, if I am reading things right and of course I certainly could be wrong, I think McDaniels is the guy and we will see how the coordinator positions piece out from there.

It may be that they never even get to Nagy. They may do their due diligence if he is available on Monday ( not 100% sure on the league rules but I think he can interview after their game on Sunday), but especially if they have George Edwards already interviewed, and if Nagy cannot interview until later in the week, I would not be surprised if the Bears announced it this coming Monday. If Nagy can interview on Monday, I would expect an announcement on Tuesday.

Even if I am wrong on McDaniels, I suspect that the timeline would be the same. And if not McDaniels, it would be either Shurmur or Flip.

Just my feel right now. I could be completely wrong.

But I think George and Ted are going along because everyone knows among those three who they want and they want as much of a deal structurally in place as possible in order to move lightning quick.

All I can say about Mickey is that I have no doubt if I were the Pats OC, the Pats would still be a top 10 offense. I'd simply call plays from the Madden 18 Pats playbook and let Brady audible to his heart's content.

McDaniels may in fact be some super genius and a great candidate but let's chill on acting like anyone can tell based on what he does in New England.

Yep, you may be joking, but i'd believe it. Evidence is that the Patriot's offense didn't skip a beat when McDaniels wasn't there. So, I don't really know how much McDaniels has to do with the success in NE

Having two ‘geniuses’ as you put it would probably be counterproductive. They probably butt heads on how they think the offense should run, especially given McDaniels’ personality.

As for interviewing those guys for coordinator positions, I highly doubt it but who knows. Most often, the HC coach gets to his staff. I don’t see how McDaniels could sign off on those guys without being part of the process...

Possibly, but Patricia probably stays put just like McDaniels has done for so long. Doubtful he makes a lateral move.

As for an OC, I would guess that McDaniels promotes a QB coach he knows (maybe his brother?) and basically runs the offense himself in a very hands-on matter.

Manning is also tradeable. You could get your QB in the draft and get picks back.

It's still better than the alternative though.

I surprised myself by agreeing with something Hub Arkush said yesterday that it's actually beneficially for guys to get interviews even if they are only getting them because of the rule.
