Trust me I don't like Richard anymore than you do. The issue is that they don't have any lefty at Iowa to replace him. That's why the flameout of Rex Brothers in early ST was so disappointing. You'll see Gerardo Concepcion sooner rather than later but he's only pitched 9 innings at AAA, when he gets to 15 or 20, pitching as well as he is, he'll get the call but they need to see a little more of him. Richard cannot be on this staff in the heat of the race and he won't be. I wouldn't panic over one weakness in the pen on June 1. That doesn't mean you can't be mad. I was furious at his performance last night.

What else is he going to say? He's got to profess faith in his guys. The issue is that he needs a new guy. Ideally you wouldn't be replacing Richard as the #2 lefty pen option but instead replacing Wood who would slide to #2. Lots of talk about Andrew Milker but someone is going to pay handsomely for him, the Yankees would ask for Contreras and a young arm most likely, and I don't think the Cubs will do that. Whatever happens Richard can't be on the staff in August.

Point was, Maddon had to go to Richard and Warren last night because Strop Grimm and Wood had been used in 3 of last 4 games..

With the game being tied and possible extras, he had to count on Richard against the lefties and if game remained scoreless or cubs took lead he had Rondon for 9th.. if it went extras he would of had Warren and Cahill. ..

Maddon didn't really have Grimm Strop or Wood as options because they had pitched in previous 2 and 3 games of last 4..


But were all in agreement that Richard needs to go..
I've been wanting him gone since last year

Barring an early trade, Concepcion has to be favorite to come up soon..

Jack Leathersich might be another name worth watching as he rehabs from TJS. As an aside, his real name apparently is John but for reasons unknown to me he goes by Jack. He has really good k rates in the minors and might be a really decent LOOGY.

If they are over using Wood and Grimm that is a issue in itself. It ties directly into trust or lack of it.

Maddon pretty much said he went with Richard because he trusted him. What else is going to say?

Not entirely sure who you're referring to but to be honest until the past year or so people would be right to criticize the signing. Conception was not very good until like late 2014 IIRC which is almost 3 years after he signed.

I am convinced this is a set lineup everytime Lester pitches. Its the best defensive set up.

Not entirely sure who you're referring to but to be honest until the past year or so people would be right to criticize the signing. Conception was not very good until like late 2014 IIRC which is almost 3 years after he signed.

Plus he was supposed to be a TOR type starter. If he becomes a stud lefty out of the pen you count your blessings but the jury is still out.
