My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
They didn't have a close relationship. I don't care who comes in. If the Reds stay status que they wont win anything.
Yep. By the article you posted, Jocketty was pretty much looking for Baker to breathe wrong and Dusty gave him the out he was looking for. Jocketty has some work to do on the roster this off-season.

I don't argue with why Baker is gone, nor the goal of the organization, nor that the GM's usually fire managers for not winning Championships.

intelligent ones keep those guys however. For example see the Atlanta Braves.

Get a team to the playoffs is the key. The goal is to win the WS, but you can't do that without getting to the playoffs.
Sure, Atlanta was a good, consistent ball club for a long time. But ... if the Cubs put together an Atlantaesque juggernaut and go 1 for 5 in WS appearances would you consider that successful?

You have to first build a team that can win in the regular season. Then you have to be able to add on payroll at the deadline to match up against the competition. 2008 Cubs were limited in budget and did not have the resource to invest into a legit ace and a power LH bat. They had to settle for a trade. When Fukudome failed to produce the needed to replace his sub par production vs moving DeRosa to RF. that year could have been diffrent. STL has been built from with in and have added F/A. They have had solid management and coaching. Using them as a model is not a bad thing. Atl has been built the same way over the years.

The diffrence has been starting pitching. We saw that with SFG. Best staff wins in match ups. STL has been good at putting out quality staffs. IMO who comes out of the Pit/STL series is the WS fav. Both teams have top ended staffs and it was not dumb to match up Burnett (not an ace) vs Wainwright (Ace). Give up a loss to set up some better starters vs STL lesser starters.

1 for 5 is better than 0-3 or 0 for 100 years.

He a winning manager for sure. Gets to the playoffs year in and out. As for Prior that wasnt his fault. Prior got hurt when he ran into 2B from ATL. Never the same after he flipped onto his shoulder. Wood had horrible mechanics and everyone knew it. So again not Baker fault.

It is true that the Giles collison was bad, but you need to remember that Dusty Baker let him throw after that collison. That is what was unforgivable. But take the destroys young arm out of the equation and he is still a bad fit.

He constantly overplays veteran players. Want to see Alcantara force Darwin Barney off of second base? Wouldn't happen under Dusty. His philosophy on hitting and lineup construction is the exact opposite of this front office. His aggressive approach does not jive with what the FO wants in patience and being aggressive on your pitch. Lineup construction is terrible with Baker consistently giving terrible hitters the most at bats on a team because of his arcane beliefs on strategy. Alex S. Gonzalez would bat second a ton while he was here, and this past year he batted Zach Cozart, one of the worst hitters on the Reds, for most of the year.

There is no doubt that players play hard for Dusty Baker, and that he has a track record of success. He also has led some pretty bad teams as well. I've seen the Dusty show and I don't want a rerun here.

Happy to hear the Cubs are willing to offer good money to Girardi but I won't get my hopes up about any reports until it's a done deal. Girardi could be Anibal Sanchezing the Cubs.

Good news now that Mike Maddux reportedly wants the job as well. He is a very nice "backup plan". Two years ago he was just kinda poking his head out to see what was out there ( or he knew the Cubs job was dead end at that point). I read Yankees want Girardi for about 3/15 and Cubs were willing to possibly go 5/$25

Yeah Bruce Levine tweeted that, but don't read much into it. Hoyer Kaplan told him nit too long again, a manager with expierence means a lot and one were looking for.

The Maddux brothers would look great in Cubbie blue. There has never been a smarter player to play then Greg Maddux.

Yeah that's true. But if I had to guess. Its Girardi 1 by a distance, 2 Hinch and then 3 not even close to 1 and a good distance from 2.

I'd be thrilled if we got Girardi, or either Maddux. I haven't heard the Ripken rumor but that doesn't sound bad. Those are all guys that would demand respect. Only idk how Ripken would develop players
