Of course he'll say it but sure his asking price would have to change significantly. It's said he wanted a 7 year 6mil per deal from Winnipeg

It's a nice thought from Ladd but I don't see this being any more than a rental. The numbers just don't work, unless he takes a massive hometown discount -- which I don't expect.

If he agrees for a 1 year deal only, 1 year at 6 mil I could see it working. Trade Shaw at the deadline, sign Kruger likely cheap and then the next year Ladd is gone with Panarin banking. but that's a hopeful place.

But hell, we didn't think Vermette would make so little leaving like he did(though maybe he could of gotten more and he took a hometown discount going to his home with a brand new baby and back where he knew he would get cushy top 6 icetime and PP/PK time which Q showed him is no guarantee around on good teams)

I'm sure some team out there is going to offer Ladd a lot more than a one-year deal. Other teams can offer Ladd a longer term and more money, and I think that's where he'll go.

Ehrhoff was a potential option some people wanted the last couple years as a low price vet but he hasn't looked good this year on the Kings.

I think he got like a bunch of his points like 10 or so on their PP but he's not majorly better than Scuderi.

But he's off the cap this year, so that's fully removing all the cap of sharp+Johns 6mil if the Hawks didn't retain like a 33% or something of scuderi for next year(honestly not sure why the Kings are making this move)

Apparently it's Ehrhoff for Scuderi. WTF?

If true, the best part of the trade is that Ehrhoff's deal expires after this summer. Scuderi still has another year left.

Funny you should mention Scuderi...might be about cap space more than anything.

Edit: You ninja edited me there with the last part...

Still have to wait on possible retained salary or more parts to the deal. If this opens up cap space for the Blackhawks then it's a solid move.

It makes no sense for the Kings do to this without at least some retention by Stan. They can't be THAT blinded by what Scuderi was for them 4 years ago.

It's a crap for crap but even a scuderi pay of 1.5 next year in the AHL/Loaned away or Scuderi's price being 1/3 of that in retention is a better move.

McKenzie is saying that this "deal" might take some time because of retained salary. Will be interesting to hear how much considering the Pens already retained a portion.

It still seems to silly to me for the kings to do without at least something like a 6th rounder or a robin norrel/robin press type prospect. (apparently Robin was a proper Swedish boys name 20 years ago.)

Ahh salary ramifications aside, is Ehrhoff going to be playable? Or is he going to play in the press box. I haven't seen any of him this year really.

Blackhawks were interested in Ehrhoff this past offseason but let's all hope he doesn't see ice time. Didn't play great defense for LA this year. This deal was obviously all about the salary cap and the future but they do get a veteran insurance policy in him.

From what was retained, it doesn't look like they are saving much, but I don't understand the math on how it works... 33.5% of scud's salary shed, vs. bringing on 85% of Ehrhoff....

I don't even think they are saving money this year, in fact I think they gained some cash against the cap. Where they are saving money is next year when Ehrhoff is a UFA and Scuderi will be in his last year of his deal.

Throwing the past out. Scud was 2.5 or so. Forget the 1.25 Philly already eating.

The Ehrhoff # is about actually rostering him on the big club if necessary, at the cost of a minimum contract. So we get a player we can actually roster.

Meanwhile, we cut losses on Scud, and are able to remove 50%. Since nobody is going to call but the Kings...and he has zero value to us. Done. Minimize the damage.

this move would allow Svedberg to stay someplace he is playing and progressing and not have to be the emergency #7.

Yeah, I just posted that in the other thread. If he is as bad as Scud, then basically all this move did was to spend 150k this year to save 1.125 mil next year.
