Can't believe I'm wading into the shitstorm of idiocy in this thread, but the science behind vaccines isn't hard to understand.
Efficacy rate (~95% about a few weeks after full vax, a little longer for the single shot) means you have a reduced chance of contracting the virus. Even if you get it, the viral load is lessened because of your immune system response and you may not have symptoms but can still pass along the virus. That's why masking indoors is important even for the vaccinated.
The longer the pandemic plays out, the more risk of mutations. Mutations happens when the virus enters a host, replicates and ends up with different DNA. The less people that contract the virus, the less chance of mutation. Logically, vaccines reduce infection and by extension the chance of mutation. Much of the evidence we're seeing indicates that vaccines have been effective against the Delta variant.
The mRNA technology used to develop the vaccine has been around for over a decade. It's a fascinating breakthrough in science. If you want to label the vaccine as "experimental" because it's approved only on an emergency basis by the FDA, you need to take the time and acknowledge the results of the vaccines which are well documented through massive sample size at this point.
Lastly, if you think a virus that has killed 4M people worldwide is equivalent to a cold or the flu, you are a fucking idiot of epic proportions. Stop sharing your opinions in public.
