Defensive metrics are pure crap, but Castro has more range and a better arm so I think you have to give the young man an edge.

Yeah. I've only seen Furcal in person and I watch the Cardinals a whole lot more than the Cubs. So it could be that I just haven't seen enough of Castro to really make a good decision.

Furcal isn't even a better defender than Castro at this point.

Exactly, the ONLY thing Furcal is better than Castro at is OBP.

I think I'll run a correlation formula on the 1.7OBP+SLG soon though, now that you have mentioned it, might as well see what it comes up with.

Well since I'm marrying someone that's a really big St. Louis fan....

And I lived/went to high school in St. Louis. It just makes sense.

But I assume you'd agree that Furcal shouldn't have the starting nod in ASG, right (I'm assuming you aren't a :homer: like I guess I am for taking Castro over him)

I don't think Furcal should be the starter, but I think he might be in there before Castro is. I don't even remember who I voted for, so...

I put Lowrie ahead of him in the quotes post, so...

But quoting to show baseless remark in question

Can you explain why he should be there over Castro? I just don't see it.

Even if you disagree with SLG > OBP, OPS is definitely better and Castro leads that too, and he is the superior defender.

Because he's Furcal. That's how the All-Star game works buddy.

Not sure if you are making a comment that he is a better known player playing for a better team or if you are making a sarcastic remark.

It means that Furcal got the vote from a very baseball-crazed community on a team that actually has a shot at contention...and Castro's team sucks so he doesn't get votes.

Which brings us back to why that shouldn't be a reason someone gets in and why fan voting is Special person anyway.

If fans didn't vote, they might not be as invested in the ASG. It's just something that has to be done.

Then take out WS advantage and do alternating home-and-away by year or create a system to determine it, like interleague record.

The fan vote is part of why fans actually watch the MLB all-star game and most don't watch the others for sure.

It's just dumb that it affects who has homefield advantage. And that it is a determining factor when it comes to HOF selections.

That has less to do with fans voting and more to do with the commissioner being stupid.

I only care about dumb fan voting because the game actually matters to an extent, but yes, that too... Selig has been good besides that though

Castro is the better player over Furcal now and the future.
