Baez on the bench is stupid, even if he is playing like shit. Might as well bench Bryant too.

Or he could actually coach Baez, who showed good plate discipline earlier in the playoffs and is still developing. Also, Ross is hitting better than Contreras at the moment.

Over matched in almost every at bat
Offers nothing in terms of situational hitting
Another right handed hitters vs a right handed starter

It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him and contreras on the bench tomorrow (obviously ross at c but would need to move zobrist to 2b and someone to left...soler had good recent ab's but Coughlin is left handed)

Just can't see maddon rolling out the same 7 with Ross inserted.

Season on the line, bench your best players. Brilliant move. It was dumb as **** to play Coghlan over Heyward in Game 1, it'd be even dumber to play him over Baez.

Best players?

It's 1 player....who wasn't even a full time starter all year.

And yes, I'd sit him to start the game to get coghlan or soler in the 5 hole.

The move would be to get more offense to start the game and bring javy in late as a ph vs miller or as a defensive replacement.

I know this will rub some people the wrong way, but Contreras has been awful behind the plate and should not be back there. He has ~8 games back there and 4 errors with 4 wild pitches. The other two catchers have ~6 games and have 0 errors or wild pitches. Contreras is not ready to be a catcher. His framing and getting strikes is well below the other two. His blocking has not been good. His ability to just catch the ball has not been good. He has 2 throwing errors and 2 catchers interference.

He should not be starting anymore. In his last 15 PA he has 1 hit and 2 walks. I guess it makes sense to start him from a getting experience to young players standpoint. He needs a lot more seasoning before he even becomes an average major league catcher.

Lastly, he makes to much of a show behind the plate and with his mound vistas. I am not as high on him as some. He needs to learn to be a lot more subdued.

Not really. 3 of the 4 games have been blowouts. Hardly intriguing matchups. Watching any team's hitters completely crap the bed and not execute doesn't make for great baseball viewing. Cubs going 0-15 with men on base doesn't excite my baseball sensibilities

You have to get it back to Schwarber in the line up.

I said it on another thread but they have to put Baez and Contreras into PH duty vs Andrew.

Lester vs Bauer they have the advantage. I would stack the line up left. Now the question is Soler vs Cog's in left. Bryant they have to keep in to save face. Yanking him would be something.

But Fowler, Bryant, Rizzo, Zobrist, Heyward, Russell, Coghlan, Ross.

They get to Cle then they need to just add Schwarber back in and build around him and Rizzo.

That is the only chance they have. Their starters should be gassed and we have all 3 on normal rest. Bench would be RH heavy.

Now I doubt they sweep. But it should go back. At that point you hope that the bats start clicking again
